Siena

Siena stands for medieval magnificence and contemporary vibes: from its 750-year-old University, to its prestigious institutions and academies, until its historic alleys and narrow streets, called contrade. The city itself celebrates both the Gothic style and the vibrant atmosphere of contrade, full of colors, sweet pastry shops and artisanal shops, that become the location of the world famous Palio di Siena, a horse race inaugurated in the 17th century and still happening twice a year.

For Palio di Siena, 10 out of the 17 contrade challenge each other in a dynamic horse race in Piazza del Campo, that last 4 days and all the contrade involved are distinguished by colors representing an area of the city and a unique emblem.
